My passion is helping leaders and organizations…
be dynamic, effective, and fulfill their purpose while bolstering their strengths and supporting sustainability. Through my decades of leadership as a non-profit executive and board member, coupled with my experience as an organizational development consultant, I know firsthand the drive and commitment it takes to lead, as well as the isolation, complexities, and challenges leaders and organizations can face.
In our work together, you will receive my focus and my honesty as we work to fulfill your values and vision.
I enter each consulting partnership with these core beliefs:
Anyone can be a leader. And all leaders deserve support.
Diverse groups make better decisions– and organizations are stronger when they involve a diversity of perspectives.
Organizations - whether they are non-profits, foundations or corporations - are like living entities that require different care and feeding at different stages.
I started my career as the HIV/AIDS public health crisis was taking hold and have carried with me the lessons learned from being responsive to the unimaginable, employing a range of strategies and tactics to achieve a goal, and in building organizations and mobilizing people to respond to massive challenges. I have spent my career working with a wide range of people, organizations, and sectors to achieve tangible outcomes that improve people’s lives.
I work with staff and board leaders to shape organizations to be future focused, racially and gender diverse, and to anticipate and be responsive to changing environments. I have more than 30 years of experience in nonprofits, start-up and growth, board governance, leadership development, fiscal sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, human resources and talent management, and philanthropic giving strategy. As the longest-tenured executive director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, I moved the organization to sustainable and financial security, and from a majority white staff and board to a majority people of color organization.
As an executive and board member, I have extensive experience with board nominating and governance, diversity & equity, finance, and strategic planning committees. I have advised companies on LGBTQ inclusion, diversity, and corporate responsibility. Over the course of my career, I have advised numerous high net worth individuals and foundations in strategic giving, grant making, and program development. Currently, I serve on the Flamboyan Foundation and the Freeman Foundation boards and previously as a board member of the Alliance for Justice, and Sapientis, developing leaders who improve public education in Puerto Rico.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from Smith College, and Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government with a focus on leadership and organizational development. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, staying in shape just in case a spot on the Olympic soccer team opens up, fantasizing about being on Top Chef, and aspiring to identify every breed of dog.
